Key Responsibilities
As a Data Steward, you will:
- Manage and Govern Data: Oversee the lifecycle of agricultural data, ensuring its accuracy, consistency, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Data Integration: Collaborate with farmers, agronomists, and technology providers to ingest and harmonize data from diverse sources, such as IoT devices, satellite imagery, and field reports.
- Quality Assurance: Develop and enforce quality controls, validation procedures, and data-cleaning protocols to maintain high-quality datasets.
- Support Analysis and Insights: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and researchers to ensure data readiness for analytics, modeling, and reporting.
- Policy and Compliance: Implement best practices in data privacy, security, and ethical use, adhering to global agricultural data standards like AgGateway or FAIR principles.
- Training and Advocacy: Educate internal and external stakeholders on the importance of data stewardship and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.
Qualifications and Skills
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or related fields.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in data management, stewardship, or a similar role, preferably in the agriculture sector.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in database management (e.g., SQL, NoSQL), data visualization tools, and programming languages such as Python or R.
- Knowledge of Agriculture: Familiarity with agricultural technologies, farming practices, and agri-data standards is highly desirable.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional analytical and organizational skills with a passion for maintaining data integrity.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills for working across multidisciplinary teams and engaging with stakeholders.
