The Lead Planner is responsible for directing the planning team and ensuring that project scheduling and progress reporting are delivered in line with both contractual obligations and corporate standards. This position oversees planning deliverables from internal teams and subcontractors, maintains project baselines, and ensures that schedules, progress tracking, and reporting are accurate, timely, and integrated across all disciplines. The role also involves hands-on planning responsibilities as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the team of project planners to deliver robust planning, scheduling, and progress measurement services.
- Ensure subcontractor planning, scheduling, and reporting outputs meet project requirements.
- Establish, approve, and maintain essential planning structures, such as WBS, scheduling hierarchies, and key interface milestones.
- Define, validate, and control project baselines for schedule and progress reporting.
- Oversee the integration of subcontractor and discipline-level schedules into the overall project schedule.
- Manage planning aspects of the change control process in close cooperation with the change management function.
- Conduct and report on schedule risk assessments (SRA) and scenario analyses.
- Provide clear schedule and progress updates to stakeholders at required intervals.
- Act as a senior planner when necessary, including:
- Developing and maintaining detailed schedules in Primavera P6 aligned with project structures.
- Defining activities, logic, and resources, and building resource-loaded networks.
- Producing histograms, S-curves, progress tracking sheets, and efficiency reports.
- Submitting baseline schedules for management approval.
- Performing weekly updates, progress analysis, critical path reporting, and manpower alignment with cost engineering.
- Evaluating the impact of changes and implementing approved schedule updates.
- Carrying out scenario and probabilistic schedule analyses as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience in project planning within large EPC projects, with at least 5 years in a leadership role on projects over USD 100M in O&G or similar industries.
- Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with Primavera P6, MS Project, and Primavera Risk Analysis.
- Strong command of schedule development, resource loading, progress tracking, and risk-based planning methods.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, including advanced functions, pivot tables, and data visualization.
- Strong reporting, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Fluent in English, written and spoken.
- Willingness and flexibility to work on international assignments.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on collaboration, communication, and professional integrity.
