As autonomous robots (delivery fleets, cleaning pods, humanoids) enter Grade-A real estate, they create a massive life-safety liability: they cannot safely interface with legacy elevators or fire alarm systems. Protocol Infrastructure solves this by building the “Stripe” of the physical world. We deploy edge-compute gateways that bridge modern robotics with legacy Building Management Systems (BMS), transforming vertical cores into programmable, safe, and billable infrastructure.
The Mission
We are looking for a foundational mechatronics partner to own our hardware integration pipeline from prototype to production scale. We are assembling the V1.0 Gateway-01 control cabinet destined for an upcoming investor showcase and VC demonstration.
You are starting from a clean slate. We hand you the loose components, a clean bench, and our high-level functional architecture standards. Your mandate is to take ownership of this hardware stack, design the component layout logic, map the bare-metal wiring pathways, and execute an absolute masterclass in physical panel execution and cable routing.
Deliverables
- Spatial Component Optimization (CAD to Bench): Develop and finalize the spatial layout logic for components inside our NEMA 4X steel cabinet. Since space constraints are removed, map out the most efficient component placement for clean wire routing, thermal management, and long-term hardware access.
- Enclosure Preparation & Machining: Drill and execute the clean, professional, weatherproof gland and antenna penetrations on the NEMA enclosure to protect the internal infrastructure capsule.
- Showcase-Grade Component Mounting: Mount the industrial enterprise-grade hardware stack onto standardized DIN rails, including our OnLogic Karbon compute node, Teltonika RUTX50 industrial 5G router, Mean Well isolated power rail, and our integrated Phoenix Contact industrial battery backup stack.
- Electromechanical Wire Mapping & Assembly: Map out and execute the electromechanical loop connections for our underlying hardwired SIL-3 safety relay and the manual call loop from scratch. Cable management must reflect flawless, textbook industrial quality—utilizing high-density slotted ducting, perpendicular wire flows, clean ferrule crimping, and clear wire-tag labeling.
The Profile
- Applied Background: Practical mechatronics technician, rapid prototyping specialist, or custom industrial control panel builder (Panelenbouwer). University engineering degrees are secondary to raw physical assembly, logical problem-solving, and clean execution capabilities.
- Industrial Panel Muscle: Complete mastery of low-voltage DC loops (24V), terminal blocks, grounding paths, and general control enclosure layouts.
- Prototyping Spacing Competency: Ability to map out spatial component footprints and plan the routing architecture before drilling, cutting, or mounting.
- Aesthetic Discipline: You view internal wire mapping as a signature of engineering maturity and personal pride. You are obsessed with bend radiuses, immaculate cable dressing, and clean, standardized presentation.
The Logistics
This is a local partnership, not a remote consulting gig. You will have access to our Amsterdam setup for the initial blueprint briefing and final product delivery, but we expect you to execute and own the physical build entirely on your own workshop bench. We will hold structured weekly progress syncs to ensure the enclosure remains aligned with our architectural logic.

This is a transaction for exceptional build quality and iterative precision, not panic-driven speed. We are paying for a showcase-ready, flawlessly mapped and constructed asset that can reliably serve as our first-article blueprint. You invoice strictly for your layout, mapping, and wiring hours; you bring the tools and the bench space, and we deliver the premium component stack to your hands.
